Burton Charles Baidowsky was born January 23, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York to Sally and Abraham Baidowsky. He grew up in the Bronx along with his younger sister Joyce. His summers were spent visiting his uncle and his family in Monticello, New York. As a young boy, he learned to play the saxophone and clarinet and continued to play while serving in the US Army. He was very competitive and enjoyed playing baseball, cards, and horse racing; always in it to win it! He met his future wife, Sylvia Sohmer at Fialkoff’s Bungalow Colony during the summer of 1957. They married on Nov. 28, 1959 on the lower East Side and then made their home in the Bronx with their 3 children, Pamela, Elisa and Michael. He worked for the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Manhattan. In 1972, he moved his young family to Kiamesha Lake, NY to pursue an opportunity in his family’s maintenance business. Years later, he became janitorial supervisor in the Monticello Central School district until he retired in 2001. Burt was a true family man. He loved his family first and foremost! He was warm, friendly, down to earth and had a great sense of humor! He was the proud grandfather of 6 grandchildren Sari, Ali, Sydney, Spencer, Ashley and Bryant. He was so proud of each one and enjoyed all the family time spent together. Upon retirement, Burt enrolled in art classes at the local Adult Education facility. He painted scenes and landscapes that were interesting to him using water colors. At his 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 28, 2009, he displayed his paintings so friends and family could each pick their favorite piece as his gift to them for attending this joyous occasion. Burt passed away suddenly on March 3, 2010 at the age of 74. We are fortunate to remember him through his art work and to have shared his sense of humor, known his passion & dedication to his family and his love for life. He always said, "if I died tomorrow, I died a rich man” which was a tribute to his family. He will live on in our hearts forever.
