Daniel Berman, 71, died on Thursday night November 25th. Through the Haven Hospice care program, he was able to spend his remaining days at home with his family by his side.

Mr. Berman was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He was graduated from Stuyvesant High School in New York City, and in 1949, he earned his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from City College of New York.

In the early 1950's, Mr. Berman moved to Plainfield, and by 1956 completed a master's degree in Business Administration from Rutgers University.

Mr. Berman was also a veteran. He served in the US Army during the Korean war.

The community will remember Mr. Berman as a great leader. For more than 40 years, he was president and chief executive officer of Fromm Electric Supply Corporation of NJ and Pennsylvania. He also lent his leadership, knowledge, and talents to many non-profit and professional organizations.

Mr. Berman was very active within the Jewish community. In the 1960's and 1970's, Mr. Berman headed United Jewish Appeal drives for the Tri County Area while serving on the Plainfield Jewish Community Council in various offices of leadership. He served as chair of the 1967 UJA campaign and stayed on to lead the campaign for humanitarian aid to Israel after the Six Day War. In 1969, he was asked by the late Philip Levin to head the Bonds for Israel campaign. He was also very active in the Hebrew Day School movement and served as Treasurer of the Plainfield Regional Hebrew Day School. In 1988, through his philanthropy, he helped create the Kosher Halal kitchen to benefit both the Jewish and Muslim student communities at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, MA. Mount Holyoke later received the prestigious Haber Award from the National B'nai Brith Organization for this innovative and extraordinary community-building project.

Within the electrical industry, Mr. Berman served on various committees and boards to benefit the electrical wholesaling industry and served proudly as a member of a National Board of Governors to the National Association of Electrical Distributors.

In addition Mr. Berman in 1966 was appointed to the local advisory board of the National State Bank led by the late Emlen Roosevelt.

Mr. Berman was honored many times by many organizations for all of his fine work. He was particularly proud though to receive the Henry M. Dreier award in 1967 for outstanding contribution and service to the Jewish Community.

An intensely charitable man, he was as well known for his great philanthropy as he was for his leadership.

His greatest accomplishment though was his completely loving lifelong dedication to his family. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Sandra (nee Fromm); a son, Robert S. Berman; a daughter, Ellen J. Berman; a sister, Phyllis Berman and her husband Rabbi Arthur Waskow of Philadelphia, PA; current President of Fromm Electric, brother-in-law, Jules B. Fromm of North Brunswick; two nieces: Morrisa Sher of PA, and Keira Fromm of CA; and two nephews: Joshua Sher of Washington, DC, and Keif Fromm of Hillsborough.

The family knows that he will be greatly missed.
